With the weather set fair, the course at Great Trethew will favour those liking top of the ground and give the mud lovers a weekend off. Renowned as a popular track for Maiden runners this meeting has attracted over 80 entries for the six race card.
The Cornish Times sponsor the opener, the Members race which heads the action at 12 noon, Fountains Cloud is a previous course winner here and being a half-brother to Chesnut Annie he has claims to take this having recently stayed on well to win a Restricted at Chipley Park for Leanda Tickle and has proven his worth for owner/trainer David Stephens.
Next up is the Open Maiden race for 4 & 5 year-olds, this looks wide open with those to note being the David Dennis-trained Presenting William, the gelding was travelling well at Chipley Park until weakening three out. Another entry having had a pipe opener this season is Tikkeche for trainer Chloe Newman who was also travelling well until three out at Black Forest Lodge.
The 4, 5, 6 and 7 year-old Open Maiden has attracted 34 entries and may well be divided, Cracking Habit showed promise when second by a neck to Lucia Popp at Upcott Cross he battled on gamely on ground described as good-good to firm and goes well for jockey Darren Edwards, the Camilla Scott-trained Honours Insight clocked up a second at Black Forest Lodge having led until the second last in a race won by Just Hattie. Hugo Where Igo made a notable run for trainer Chloe Roddick at Wadebridge having to settle for second behind Tinker Time.
Roger Young sponsor the Mixed Open in which Lucette Annie looks to be favorite having just won the Westcountry Champion Chase at Buckfastleigh last weekend for jockey Darren Edwards. The mares winning profile includes eleven point-to-points, including eight Opens, although she may find the drying ground against her. Of the others Wee Fly goes well for jockey Bryony Frost the partnership seeking a seasons hat-trick.
In the Restricted, Hallo Dolly won her Maiden at Trebudannon beating the favourite Jewellery by two lengths on good-to firm for trainer Sarah Prowse she followed up with a second in a Restricted to Fairhaven at Upcott Cross.
Peakes sponsor the final race of the day the Confined in which Double Bank may be looking for a hat-trick for joint owners Jimmy Cole and Emma Oliver having taken the Intermediate at Black Forest Lodge followed by the Confined at Buckfastleigh last weekend. Hameldown Tor could be his closet rival and may relish the drying ground.
