Those attending Richard Woollacott Racing Open Day on Saturday August 10th were treated to a delightful afternoon. Starting with a demonstration of Richards natural horsemanship with young horses in for breaking at Big Brook Park. Established in 2006 with just five Point to Point horses the yard accommodates some 25 horses, Richard deals with the breaking and his Fiancée Kayley Jones runs the Point to Point side of the business and she has just had another successful season. Richard demonstrated some amazing loose schooling of his youngsters, including lunging of a two year old filly which had only arrived at the yard three days earlier, having taken five hours to load into the lorry, another hour to get off the lorry and and hour at first attempt to enter the schooling area, Richard had gained the trust of this filly who was lunging very well and followed him around off the lead rein.
After supping the welcome Pimms drinks, a tour of the yard, the delegates were directed over to Nethercott Manor for a tour of the National Hunt horses, more drinks and a delicious never ending buffet. Richards decision to extend into National Hunt training was a natural progression in 2011, after achieving their first winner within two weeks the yard has gone from strength to strength. The yard has now had 17 winners in its first 12 months from only a handful of horses providing the whole team with an exciting start.
