The Royal Cornwall Showground is the venue for the re-arranged Western Hunt meeting this Saturday March 15, with six races on the card starting with the Confined race at 12 noon. Welstonedruid from the Robert Chanin team was a course winner here in December, and went on to win at both Black Forest Lodge meetings, he was unlucky to fall at Didmarton when travelling well. The Pauling Geering-trained Searee is also a course winner here, but may need the run.
The Aga Ladies race has course specialist Byerley Bear entered, another from the Robert Chanin team, his challengers could be Lion On The Prowl trained by Alexandra Dunn, having recently been sent of favourite at Charing only to unseat his jockey at the first fence. Wee Fly is another to consider, being a course specialist, goes well for jockey Bryony Frost and is trained locally by Ross Oliver.
Exeter racecourse sponsor the Intermediate in which Lightening Jack won here in January, and could follow up on his recent win at Cothelstone for owner John Pearn. Another entry, Punter Friendly from the Ed Walker team, ran second at Didmarton earlier this month under Robbie Henderson and could find the drying ground to his liking.
The Open Maiden race is sponsored by Savills (Cornwall), and this could go to another Walker/Henderson combination in He’s A Bully, who was travelling well at Didmarton before being hampered and unseating his rider three out. Another suggestion would be the Nikki Frost-trained Sangram who has shown promise in Irish Points scoring two seconds last season.
The Mens Open is a qualifier for the Bonhams Mens Open HC final to be held at Cheltenham on Wednesday 20th April. Blazing Whale could follow up on his wins at Buckfastleigh and Chipley Park, and Googoobarabajagal won here in January for jockey Michael Heard and is already on a hat-trick of wins at this course.
The final race on the card is the Restricted race sponsored by Stimson & Tieken, in which Colley Row trained by Chris Williams won at Howick ealier this month and could repeat that form here. Ratline Rose for owner Lady Earle and trainer Kayley Woollacott will be looking to follow -up on her Maiden win here in January.
The course is located off A39 west of Wadebridge. Postcode PL27 7JE. Entry £10 car & driver, £5 per passenger, children under 16 free.
