Pony racing report: Buckfastleigh, 16th March 2014

Tyler Heard is on a roll with his new pony The Job’s Not Straight and got the better of a tremendous battle with his peers in the 138 pony race at the Dart Vale meeting at Buckfastleigh.

Veno Star and Fergus Gillard were right up at the head of proceedings from the off! Diptford Moonwalker having led early under his new pilot Dan Cox. Angelic took up the running around the bend with Tamby Welch setting his sights on the finishing post. With Angelic and Veno Star battling it out, Heard moved up on the inside of both as they passed the second last fence on the point to point course, Veno star just losing his place before rallying. Heard went for home in the final 100 yards with Veno Star running on in second and Angelic finishing third.

James Armstrong had his best race of the season on My Golden Dream to finish fifth behind Diptford Moonwalker. Roisin Leech (Bronze Lawrence) and Chad Bament (Shammi) did brilliantly on their first rides and we look forward to seeing them progress in the pony racing arena.

The 148 race saw a good day for the Gillard family franked as Theo Gillard finished second on Hawksfield Flyer behind William Cox on Total Eclipse. Tarka (Barnaby Treneer) was second for a long way but was overhauled by Gillard, Total Eclipse having once again sprinted clear.
