Pony racers to the fore on Family Day at Exeter Racecourse
Future stars of jump racing will be in action at Exeter Racecourse’ Finlake Holiday Park Family Day on April 15 when two pony races, which are part of the Charles Owen series, are staged.
Sam Twiston-Davies, Harry Derham and Hadden Frost are just a handful of former pony racers who have gone on to become top professional jockeys and racegoers could be cheering on a future champion at the Devon track.
Family Day at Exeter is one of the best free days out for children in the Easter holiday with free entry for anyone aged 17 and under and a two for one offer on pre-booked adult tickets.
The racecourse’s art competition for children aged 11 and under closes on April 8 with great prizes donated by Leonard Coombe Master Saddlers and Countrylife for the winning design which will be featured on the front of the racecard. Tractor Ted will be making an appearance and there are stacks of activities for children to enjoy including a running race down the home straight, questions and answers with jockeys, animals from Pennywell Farm to pet, RSPB’s interactive stand to take part in and ex-racehorse Korakor to meet in the Blackdown Buildings Retired Racehorse Stable. Racing legend Ollie McPhail of the British Horseracing Education and Standards Trust will also be on hand to answer questions about racing.
The pony races will take place at 12.50 and 1.20pm with the first main race off at 2pm.
