There are some cracking pony races on the cards at Bratton Down on Sunday (May 18) at the Dulverton West Point to point.
The 138s kick off the action and locals will be cheering on Chad Bament who rides Ginger Wizard and newcomer Ellie Fyers on Haldon Hill Lucky Charm – both are qualified with the host hunt.
G Whizz used to feature in many a finish under first Harry Derham – now a successful NH jockey – and then Megan Nicholls -who is enjoying an amazing first season point to point riding – and is now on schoolmaster duties for Johnny Marsh. Bronze Lawrance, also a multiple winner, is doing the same for Roisin Leech. James Armstrong is having his best season on his new pony Menedh Jumping Jack Flash and they will be joined by Tamby Welch and Tyler Heard both on smart Richard Prince owned ponies Angelic and The jobs Not Straight respectively.
The 148 race is split into two as it features one of the Racetech Novice Rider series. Abi Lewis on Derwent Dream Dancer, Lucy Reason on Dolphin Song and Bruce Young on Frantic Fox compete in this which will run within the 148 open in which Michael Treneer on Plym Steps and Thomasina Eyston on Springs, will try and keep tabs on William Cox on board standing dish Total Eclipse.
These races also earn points towards the Bratton Down Novice Riders Challenge Cup presented after the Exmoor pony races on June 1st for the pony/rider combination, not to have won so far this season.
The first pony race is off at 11.45am and is sponsored once again by pony racing supporters Mr G Dartnall and Mrs S Hall with the best turned out prizes sponsored by Campbell Equestrian.
