Over 70 entries have been received for this weekends Point-to-Point meeting to be held at Great Trethew, Menheniot on Sunday March 29. The East Cornwall host the day, where two Pony races will head up the action at 12 noon, followed by the main race event starting at 1.30pm.
Come On Mother from the Robert Chanin team, looks a likely favourite in the St Austell Brewery-sponsored Open Maiden for four and five-year olds, having run a close second and coming home ahead of Mystery Edition and Motts Cross at this track earlier this month. The going that day was soft to heavy, and if conditions stay on the dry side, the sounder surface could see them battle out the placings here.
Dawe Hawken & Dodd sponsor the Open Maiden for four, five, six and seven year olds, which has attracted 27 entries, this race may well be divided on the day. Of the entries Spendajennie from the Kayley Woollacott team, ran well at Wadebridge when third behind winner Sonoftheking, and had shown previous form on good ground last season. Turnstone is another entry that catches the eye, having finished second here at the first meeting under current leading area jockey Darren Edwards, they could well put up another good performance for the Dean Summersby yard. Whatastormnorm is another to have run a close second in the divided Maiden at the last meeting here, when three lengths down to Great Camanoe.
In the Jamaica Inn-sponsored Mixed Open, Blazing Whale could go well, having taken the winners only Mixed Open at Buckfastleigh. He ran poorly in a Hunter Chase at Chepstow two weeks ago, but could make amends for his connections here having won this race last season. Welstonedruid is progressive and ran a good second here under Ian Chanin to Bradley Brook at the last meeting, he looks to be the main danger.
The PPORA Club Members Novice riders race could see Harry Cobden get another fine tune out of Silver Token. The combination have clocked up three straight wins for trainer Rachael Green, having impressed at Buckfastleigh when a six length winner of a strong field, that day holding Ladvie (also entered) in fifth. Cock Of The Rock could be another option for 16-year-old Harry, having taken the Novice riders race at Larkhill this month, and could be the preferred runner if the ground stays dry. Olivia Hutchings owns/trains and rides Lucius Fabeo, they stayed on well when winning the Members race at the earlier meeting here and could put on another bold show. This race is sponsored by Jefferys.
Exeter Racecourse sponsor the Intermediate race in which the Nicola Martin-trained Infamous Grouse has quickly progressed up through the ranks into Intermediate company. He goes well under current area leading jockey Darren Edwards. Sarah Tickle could send out Way Before Dawn, having taken the Restricted race here one length ahead of Sonoftheking (a winner last weekend) on that form looks sure to go close.
The Restricted race, sponsored by Blackburn Metals closes the days events, entry Great Camanoe ran on well under jockey Jake Bament to beat favourite Whatastormnorm here in a Maiden race, and could be the one to catch if improving on that run. Another consideration could be Gleannacreim from the Charlotte Hawker team, having run a good two lengths second behind Turtle Too at Charleton Horethorne.
