THE final of the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate Series final was held at Exeter Racecourse on Tuesday evening May 5th, the race was sponsored on the evening by The Ship Inn Teignmouth. Twelve lined up, with the Neil Harris-trained What About Will under jockey Vicky Wade setting a strong pace, on ground that was described as good. The favourite, Third Chance ran well under David Noonan, until a few mistakes started to take their toll.
Blinding Lights under Matt Hampton also travelled well, and was in with every chance, but it was the Ian Chanin trained and ridden The Wealerdealer, who took up the running over the fourth last. What About Will soon retracted, with Third Chance and Blinding Lights back joining the new leader The Wealerdealer over the last, and despite hanging left, Ian Chanin pushed out The Wealerdealer to win by three and a quarter lengths, with the favourite Third Chance in second and Blinding Lights another three and a half lengths back in third.
Ian Chanin’s partner Becks Barnett owns The Wealerdealer, and was delighted with the win saying “I am thrilled to pieces, it was a good team effort, Ian and I do him between us. We work him on grass with the eventers. We may run him in a few Hunter Chases before turning him away for the summer.” Becks works as a farrier and the couple are based at Rackenford.
