One and Only Handicap Hunter Chase at Newton Abbot

Lady riders dominated the One and Only Handicap Hunter Chase at Newton Abbot on Tuesday night. The first four horses were powered home by girls – Bryony Frost, Vicky Wade, Charlotte Pritchard and Jodie Hughes on Current Event, King of Alcatraz, Ballytober and Findlays Find respectively.

The winner, Current Event, trained by Rose Loxton, was never in doubt, making all under top weight – carrying almost two stone more than most of his rivals.
King of Alcatraz, always held in high regard by trainer Neil Harris, made a good show of it, challenging all the way to the last fence where Current Event got a better jump. With the short run in at Newton Abbot, that was all he needed for Bryony Frost to drive him home for an impressive five length victory. Wade was eight lengths clear of the third horse and King of Alcatraz surely has a bright future in hunter chases.
Ballytober in third carried 10st 12 and was given a great ride by Charlie Pritchard to get home ahead of another Welsh runner, Findlays Find.
