Written by: Lee Glanville

There’s a noon start for the pony racing which kicks off the Dart Vale and Haldon Harriers’ point to point at Buckfastleigh.

Ponies will be in the paddock from 11.45am and a competitive race looks assured. Tyler Heard will be bidding for a another course double, and rides The Jobs Not Straight in the opening 138cm and under race, but he faces opposition from Black Forest winner Finn Muirhead on Dillon’s Girl and multiple winner Wee Antony, this time partnered by Freddie Gingell. Local rider Artemis Morgan follows in her brother Otis’s footsteps, partnering Menedh Jumping Jack Flash, and there will be fierce competition from Chad Bament and Taylor Fisher amongst others.

In the 148s, of the seven entries, Heard aboard Shotgun Minnie take on Tamby Welch on Buddy’s Girl and Michael Treneer on Tarka, both of whom live close to the course. Of the younger riders making their mark, Archie Woollacott is aboard Smartie and Taylor Fisher has Mario.

With fabulous trackside viewing the course offers hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and a host of traditional trade stands.

Entrance to the course is £10 per person up to a maximum of £30 per car. Children under 16 free, dogs on leads welcome.

Course is located 1m SW of Buckfastleigh at Lower Dean, adj  to A38 – Postcode TQ11 OLT
