Horse racing enthusiasts are promised a fantastic family day out on Bank Holiday Monday May 30th, when the South Tetcott will be hosting their Point-to-Point meeting to be held at Upcott Cross, Halwill Junction. Pony racing  heads up the action at 12 noon with two pony races sponsored by Bruce Newport. Then follows the main seven race card at 1pm, which have attracted over 120 entries resulting in the Open Maiden race already divided before the day.

Penbode Vet Group sponsor the opening Confined race in which the Ella Pickard-trained and ridden Cinevetor is among the entries, he could once again defy top weight and add to his unbeaten run this season. Ella has just collected her Princes Royal trophy for being crowned leading National Novice Lady Jockey under 21. Follow The Paint came home runner up here at the last meeting and could run well again, with  It’s All Or Nothing another being entry who may try and deny Cinevator his fourth straight win.

The Dimson Day Care nursery-sponsored Men’s Open could see another good performance from Certain Flight who came back from injury to put on a stunning performance when winning at this course two weeks ago under champion jockey Will Biddick for the Keith Cumings team. Really Unique is an entry that catches the eye after his twenty length win at the Bredwardine meeting in Hereford under jockey Byron Moorcroft for trainer Michael Bassett. Blazing Whale from the Ed Walker team is another who would put on a bold bid having wins in double figures and his second in a Hunter Chase at Fontwell Park puts him in the mix.

The Teresa Clarke-trained Fountains Cider could go well in the Coodes Solicitors-sponsored Restricted race with the yard in top form, Dean Summersby’s Rockinrolldixie looks progressive, whilst Key People for Welsh trainer raider Jonathan Lean is another suggestion who could go close.

Simpkins Edwards sponsor the Ladies Open race which has attracted a strong field with outside raiders such as Sharp Suit from the Alan Hill Yard for leading lady jockey Gina Andrews, with Bangor and Brocklesby winner All Great N Theory from the Julie Marles team for jockey Claire Hart. Watch The Birdie is another highly rated with recent wins at Pyle and Lower Machen under jockey Hannah Lewis.

Unbeaten Premier Portrait stands out among the entries in the Novice Riders race which is sponsored by PRJ Engineering and has 26 entered. Premier Portrait is the current leading horse, and although holds an entry at the Cothelstone meeting on Sunday connection could choose here to seal the novice riders title for Gus Levinson and his family here at Upcott Cross. Ella Pickard could choose this race for Cinevator over the Ladies Open, and the Alan Hill-trained King’s Legacy is another who could well be in the mix and looks to act on any, after his Open wins at Tabley and Larkhill when ridden by Joe Hill.

The Open Maiden race has already been divided, with suggestions for the short list in the first division being Cothelstone and Vauterhill runner up Kisha Lad, Trebudannon and Wadebridge runner up Driving Well, and Trebudannon third Witchesintune. Whilst the second division possible favourites could be Village Whispers and She’s Dapper. The divisions of the Open Maiden are sponsored by The Dawn West Devon and FC Cleaning Systems.

The course offers track side viewing, hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and a number of trade stands. Course is located 2 miles South of Halwill junction, off A3079. Postcode EX21 5AE. Entrance to the course is £10 per person up to a maximum of £30 per car load. Children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome. Pedestrians £10.
