Chipley Park is the picturesque venue for next weekends Point-to-Point horse racing meeting, where 182 entries have been received for the Tiverton meeting this coming Sunday 29th January. Eight races are on offer with an earlier start time of 11.30am

The Mixed Open race is the feature race of the day being a qualifier for the Timico-sponsored Mixed Open final to be held at Cheltenham in May. Entries include the Rose Loxton-trained Caesar Milan a recent runner up at Larkhill, the highly rated Chepstow Hunter Chase and dual Men’s Open winner Desert More View out of Welsh trainer Alan Rhead’s yard, and the Gus Levinson-trained Premier Portrait who won the novice race here last year before being disqualified for a weighing in issue.

First race up is the Stag-sponsored Members race run in memory of John Pearcey and Brian Summers. Whenharrymetsally stands out having won this race last season for the Keith Cumings team under jockey Matt Hampton. The Kayley Woollacott entry Jepeck won four Points last season and got the better of Whenharrymetsally at Trebudannon under jockey Jamie Thomas, so should be feared.

Exeter racecourse sponsor the Intermediate race which is a qualifier for the Exeter racecourse Intermediate final Hunter Chase and also a qualifier for the finals at Cheltenham in May. Jack Barber has entered Athreeothree having chosen to by pass Black Forest Lodge last weekend and looks to be the one to beat. He was travelling well until falling at the recent Larkhill meeting under champion jockey Will Biddick, the combination ran second in his maiden here last season, then followed up with wins at Lower Machen and Charlton Hawthorn. Trainer Dean Summersby is in great form and could be the main challenger with recent dual Wadebridge winner Chosen Lucky under jockey Darren Edwards.

The Agrii & Hartnoll Hotel Restricted race could go the way of the Ben Clarke-trained Creative Inerta, second at this meeting last season and unlucky to fall at Larkhill two weeks ago. Fishy Story is another to note having the benefit of a mares weight allowance and has the booking of jockey Matt Hampton, along with previous course winner Pauls Conn for trainer Bethan Childs.

31 entries for the PPORA Novice Riders race sponsored by Dodson & Horrell, include the Rose Loxton-trained Join Together, a winner of a Hunter Chase at Wincanton and seven Points to date for owners Ian and Wendy Fogg, has the booking of jockey Lorcan Williams. The Laura Thomas- trained and ridden Karinga Dancer who was unlucky to be carried out when travelling well at Black Forest Lodge last weekend, together with the highly rated Desertmore View after his previous Chepstow Hunter Chase win followed by Men’s Open wins at Trecoed and Howick, holds an entry for the Alan Rhead team, to name a few which could prove popular in the betting ring.

There follows three Maiden races, the first is the PPORA Jockey Club Mares and Fillies maiden race sponsored by Tiverton Hotel, in which Aunty Joan looks promising for the Richard Pringuer team, having finished runner up at last season at the Chaddesley Corbett and Dingley meetings. Flights is another to catch the eye, trained by Sally Alner for the Portman Flyers Partnership, could follow up on her second at Barbury two weeks ago then ridden by jockey Lorcan Williams.

Suggestions in the next two Open Maiden races are Village Whispers in the first Division having shown some good place form last season for the Whisky Friday Partnership, and Troubleshot who could improve on his recent fourth at Wadebridge for trainer Robert Chanin.

In the second division of the Open Maiden, trainer Christine Gray will be hoping for a good run out of entry Morpet, to follow up on his second at Cothelstone last March. The Open Maiden races have been kindly sponsored by System Six Kitchens, The Mount Pleasant Inn and Robin Marlow Memorial.

Entrance to the course is £10 per head up to a maximum of £30 per car. Children under 16 free. On course facilities include hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and a host of trade stands.

Location is at Chipley Park off B3187, Wellington 1m, Milverton 1m, TA21 0QY.
