A massive total of 115 entries have been received for the East Cornwall Hunt Point-to-Point fixture this weekend at Great Trethew, this Sunday February 26th. The Toad Hall Cottages- sponsored pony races head up the action at 11am with the main six race card to follow at 12 noon.

Porsche Centre Exeter sponsor the feature race of the day the Mixed Open which offers a £1000 prize fund. Ottery based trainer Ed Walker holds key entries with both Before The War and Blazing Whale, either would be likely bookies favourites along with Mountain Cliche a runner up here last season, and the Welsh raider out of David Brace’s yard Doctor Braveheart, who goes well for regular jockey Byron Moorcroft.

The opening Members Group Travel-sponsored race could go the way of the David Stephens-trained Katkolys having previously won a Connollys Red Mills Intermediate race at Garthorpe. Trainer Victoria Sleeps camp hold the other two entries with Fiddleesticks and Mongress Boy with the later having run notably well in runner up spots last season at the Upcott, Vauterhill and Cothelstone meetings all on soft type going.

The Open Maiden race for four, five and six year olds has attracted 28 entries and could well be divided on the day. Entry I Would Like To Say has the benefit of an outing this season, when running third at Wadebridge, and with the Kayley Woollacott yard hitting form he should be well fancied to take this race. River Wye is another to catch the eye coming from the Alan Walter team and showing ability when second at Lower Machen last season. This race is sponsored by Dawe, Hawken & Dodd and Jonathan Blake.

Hannah Welsh was unlucky to take a fall from Carumba last weekend when the partnership looked to be travelling well at Buckfastleigh, and could well be in the mix in the Kings Head Hotel-sponsored Open Maiden race for seven year olds and upwards. This race has also attracted 28 entries and could also be divided on the day. Ruby Fool and Troubleshot are two looking to be on the upgrade and could put up a brave performance here.

The PPORA race for Novice riders has both Blazing Whale and Before The War entered from the Ed Walker team and will be hot in the betting arena if connection decide not to run in the earlier Mixed Open race. Novice rider Abbie Hughes got a good tune out of Blazing Whale when winning at Chaddesley Corbett and could well repeat that form. Dual Wadebridge winner Chosen Lucky is entered and could run well if turning up here.

Finally up is the Jeffery’s-sponsored Restricted race, and of the 19 entered this could go the way of Air Glider having run well in all three of his starts under Darren Edwards this season, and Inch Rock after his second earlier this month under jockey Will Biddick at Chaddesley Corbett. Village Whispers is another to consider having a recent win when relishing the going at Wadebridge to take his maiden race for Chloe Emsley’s team. The Editor also catches the eye with his weight allowance which could prove valuable. The course offers fabulous track-side viewing, hot food, refreshments, bar bookies and trade stands.
