PONY RACING REPORT – EAST CORNWALL AT GREAT TRETHEW – 26TH FEB 2017

A great card of racing at Great Trethew kicked off with two really competitive pony races.

With the likes of top flat jockey Josephine Gordon and top NH conditional Harry Cobden having graduated from the local pony racing scene, it’s a great chance for the public to see these riders progress.

Edward Vaughan has announced his presence with two back to back Devon and Cornwall wins in his first season at just nine years old. He has an able partner in Humbel Mind, a full TB pony by the stallion Humbel.

Fergus Gillard was hot on his heels on the consistent Veno Star in second, and it was great to see Taylor Fisher and Downhills Master Alfie, challenging at the business end of the race as he gains experience, in third.

The 148 race saw a first ride, first win for Charlotte Summersby on course specialist Vadlawalkover. He’s no pushbutton ride but stays on well up the hill and Charlotte grabbed the chance to overhaul last week’s protagonists Tamby Welch (Buddy’s Girl) and Tyler Heard (Motor Edd). They reversed places from Buckfastleigh with Tamby second, Tyler third.

It looks like being a cracking season ahead and there’s more at the Mid Devon next Sunday, 12 noon.
