Bratton Down, beautifully located on the edge of Exmoor, is the setting for the Tiverton Staghounds meeting this Sunday (June 11th). This is the penultimate weekend of the point-to-point season.

An excellent entry of 120 for the six races promises top class point-to-point racing at this most scenic venue.

The Hunt Members’ race, sponsored by Winston Pincombe, gets the action under way at 2pm and has a competitive look which features previous winners of this event in Whenharrymetsally and Uber Alles.. Beat The Tide, Le Clo De La Londe and Top Chief each boast recent winning form, but The Wealerdealer’s brave Cheltenham hunter chase effort last month entitles him to favouritism.

The 26 entries for the Stags, South Molton Open Maiden include several promising types. Pyleigh Brae and Flasheen ran well at this track recently, whilst Tree Sparrow, Quick N Easy and the Welsh trained Vet Cert have shown promise.

Exmoor Hay and Straw sponsor the Intermediate which has attracted 19 entries. Don’t Doittome has hit form with wins at Holnicote and Bratton Down, but faces useful opposition here with Inch Rock, Namako and Air Glider leading the charge.

A number of in-form horses feature amongst the 28 nominations foe the Men’s Open, sponsored by Volvo .The Bowen yard can choose between Deadly Move, Flying Eagle and Universal Soldier. Temple Grandin has won his last three races for Philip Rowley, and Broken Eagle could also line up for Joe Hill. An interesting runner would be the Belvoir qualified Lough Inch, whose seven victories this year currently puts him level with Chosen Lucky for the Connolly’s Red Mills National leading horse award.

Lough Inch and Universal Soldier are also engaged in the Greenslade, Taylor, Hunt sponsored Ladies’ Open which has attracted 21 entries, Start Royal would be another interesting traveller, and Cinevator and Miss Gotaway look the pick of the local contingent.

The concluding Restricted, sponsored by Best Western Tiverton Hotel, has 18 entries. Sabroclair, Zip The Lip and Sleepy Sunday hold recent winning Maiden form, Arcs Abound, The Lizard King, Come On Joey and Just Imagine It have been knocking at the door in what looks to be a tricky looking contest. .

On course facilities include a number of trade stands, hot food and refreshments, bar and bookies all contributing to the atmosphere of the day. Entrance to the course is £10 per car and driver, £10 per passenger up to a max of £30 per car. Children under 16 free and dogs on leads welcome. The course is located at Bratton Down, Bratton Fleming 9m NE of Barnstaple on A399, 11m N of South Molton EX31 4SG.
