Helen Humphry & Lotus Therapies sponsor the opening Novice & Veteran riders race which has been pre-divided. In the first division, the Tom Malone – trained Art Mauresque stands out having won at the opening meeting at Bishops Court in October. This French bred gelding had decent form when under rules with Paul Nicholls, having won over £180,00 in prize money, before loosing his way. Bloodstock Agent Tom Malone has sweetened the horse up with a change of scenery and he sets the standard here. However he also holds an entry in both the Men’s Open and Ladies Open races, which may be a preferred option for Art Mauresque, this could leave the door open for the Les Jefford-trained Raddon Top who should go well in the first division of the opener and follow upon his second at the East Devon meeting in October, when coming home two lengths second under Conor Houlihan, who holds the ride again here. Sounds of Italy looks an interesting outside raider for owner/trainer/jockey Finbar Milrane, with his two lengths second at Ampton when last seen, but he also holds an entry at the Chaddesley Corbett fixture, so may head there if conditions suit. Kimble winner Sir Mangan could prove a danger coming out of the red hot Alan Hill’s team.

In the second division Chosen Lucky could get another win for the Dean Summersby team, with daughter Charlotte on board. Rolling Dylan is an entry for trainer Laura Parker, who has a good strike rate at this track, and the gelding could find his old National Hunt form when in training with Philip Hobbs, who still owns him, and has the booking of promising young jockey Tom Dixon aboard.

The open maiden race has 40 entries and is likely to be divided on the day. Those that catch the eye are A Tipple Or Two who was unlucky when unseating at Bishops Court, and could go well on his previous runner-up form. Honest Opinion who could be another shrewd buy on previous place form, from Ireland for team Summersby.  Great Colewood for the Ed Walker team could follow up on his second at Bishops Court. Old Town Garde for the Chloe Roddick team with the booking of jockey Angus Cheleda is interesting. Moonaro could improve on his place form for trainer Susan Darke,  and The Kitchenmecanic had previous place form in Ireland and could go well for trainer Teresa Clark. The maiden races have been kindly sponsored by Andrew & Susan Pellowe, David Hardie Plumbing & Heating and Hayley Mason.

The Treavarthen-sponsored Ladies Open race looks to be a thriller in store, with previous course winner The Last But One entered for the Tom Malone team, which could see jockey Jo Supple back in the winners enclosure. They may be challenged by entry Chosen Lucky under Charlotte Summersby if not competing in the earlier Novice race, or the Ed Walker entry Different Gravy. The latter having had decent form under rules when with Nicky Henderson when he clocked up five wins under rules. Once joining the Ed Walker team, Different Gravy’s latest win came at Larkhill in 2018 under jockey Will Biddick, they could be right there at the finish if going well fresh after a long layoff.

The prolific winning gelding Navanman for the John Heard team could take on Art Mauresque in the Moore’s of St Wenn-sponsored Men’s Open which looks another exciting race. Navanman has already scored a hat-trick at this course and may have the booking of either top jockey’s Will Biddick, if Art Mauresque is chosen to run in an earlier race, or Darren Edwards who has won aboard Navanman. Dr Des catches the eye for Welsh raider Gary Barber after his dual hurdle win and third at Exeter in February this year. Also Different Gravy, mentioned before, if not running in the Ladies race.

In the Exeter Racecourse-sponsored Intermediate race, Waterloo Warrier is an outside raider to note if travelling down from the Cotswolds for the Angela Slater team, having good previous National Hunt form and ran a half length third at Maisemore in October. Getting Closer for trainer Alan Hill won his Restricted at Horseheath and followed up with a two length second to Fumet O’Oudaries in his Intermediate also at Horseheath. Voie Dans Voie is another to hold some promising form with a previous maiden win at this track and is now trained and ridden by Will Biddick.

Preview: Cornwall Club Point-to-Point at Wadebridge ON Sun 6 December 2020

The Cornwall Club Point-To-Point is the first of three scheduled meetings to take place this season at The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge this Sunday 6th December. It will be a welcome return for trainers, owners and jockeys, who have had to keep their horses ticking over during the Covid lockdown. This meeting will still be behind closed doors, but live race streaming will be available on Facebook and hopefully Youtube.

Betting will also be available remotely by telephone, contact numbers are 07974584712 and 07711298746, with the Bookmakers having worked hard to open accounts for those wishing to place a bet. This can be done by opening up an account by depositing funds into their Paypal account by 6pm on Saturday 5th December. Minimum bet deposits are £30 to open, and individual bets are taken at £10 five minutes before the scheduled race time. Full details can be found on the Devon & Cornwall Point-to-Point Website and Facebook page. Seven races are on offer with an earlier start time of 11.00am. 120 good quality entries have been received.

Finally up is the Print Concerns NHS Restricted race in which Mustmeetforapint is a previous winner at this track and acts on any going. Starsky could follow up on his win at Bishops Court, and Schiap Hill after his second at Bishops Court. Also Hotel Du Nord could give Will Biddick another training performance and see a promising young jockey Charlie Sprake take a step up the ladder in his career.

GRANVILLE’S BETTING GOSSIP – STEVENSTONE POINT-TO-POINT, VAUTERHILL 4TH MAY 2015

Website_SV_Money_Talks_Banner

Comments for the Bank Holiday Monday meeting have been kindly supplied by bookmaker David Phillips

The Members’ was won by Just Seven touched 4/6, well backed into 1/2.

An excellent Restricted won by Peterbrown, opened 2/1 drifted before being backed at 7/2
.
The Mixed Open betting was mainly between the eventual winner Parkam Jack 4/6 into 1/2 and Welstonedruid laid by myself heavily at 2/1 into 6/4, nothing for the other runners.

It’s All or Nothing won a good race for the Confined at around 4/6 with Swansbrook backed at 9/4.

The three runner intermediate attracted money for all three: King Kash was around 5/4 and good money for the winner Pasternak Jack at 2/1.There was a large amount of money on Hallo Dolly from 7/2 into 11/4. The mare ran a promising race in second on her first run for over 12 months.

In a very open Maiden race Astral Star was heavily backed at 8/1 into 5/2.The winner, The Persuader, was very well backed at 6/1 into 3/1.

The Mares Maiden was won by Triggywinkle at a mainly unpacked 14/1, a relief for the layers as other results had gone against them. This race saw the Tim Whitley owned and Les Jefford trained Queens Law drift from evens out to 3/1, which was not surprising as the horse ran a shocker and never gave her supporters a chance.
