Both the Ladies and Men’s Open races have attracted top class entries. In the Bray Leino-sponsored Ladies race Virak stands out for the Sam Loxton team, having won his last four races which include Hunter Chase wins at both Wincanton and Musselburgh under regular jockey Natalie Parker, however he will probably run at Stratford on Friday evening, this could leave the race for Copain de Classe to snatch, he is another ex National Hunt entry for the Loxton team, and could improve on his third to Famous Clermont at Cothelstone, The Roestone for the Robert Chanin team should be there among the finishers if reproducing his win at Cherrybrook under Martin McIntyre.

The Moore Scarrott Accountants-sponsored Men’s Open has attracted another Loxton team entry in Chameron who won a Hunter Chase at Leicester in February. Chameron’s recent run at Cothelstone saw him finishing second having had a few jumping errors which could have cost him the race that day, although he also holds an entry at Upcott Cross on Monday and connection smay choose there for him to run. Upcott Cross winner River Myth entered for trainer Stuart Sampson, will be looking to follow up on her run at Upcott Cross when coming home the four-length winner that day and has the benefit of a mares weight allowance although she too holds an entry for the Upcott meeting. Recent runner up in a Hunter Chase at Leicester The Muclair for the Camilla Scott team can’t be left out of the equation, they had an unlucky fall last time out at Upcott Cross when ridden by Finn Muirhead.

There are two divisions of the conditions race which are run in the memory of Donna Kingdon. In the first division Where’s Wilma could follow up on her Upcott Cross win under jockey Matt Hampton. Cloudy Music for team Summersby just missed out on a win by a short head at Upcott Cross, Rein du Tout won an Intermediate at Holnicote earlier this month and could repeat that form for jockey Darren Andrews.

Finally there is Totnes & Bridgetown Racing Co Ltd-sponsored Open Maiden race which could go the way of Honest Opinion for the Dean Summersby team to follow up on her four-length second at Upcott Cross earlier this month and will be handy here if not another heading to Upcott Cross on Monday, along with Acaras an outside raider looking dangerous after their second at the Upcott Cross meeting. Jimmy Tew has been a worthy place winner in his points so far for the Janet Ackner team andis another catching the eye.

Eggesford Preview extract

In the opening Chris Hodgson-sponsored Conditions race, Raddon Top could go well for trainer Les Jefford if re-producing his impressive win at Wadebridge and goes well for jockey Conor Houlihan,  The Roestone for the Robert Chanin team also catches the eye on his Cherrybrook Intermediate win last month and goes well for Martin McIntyre. Trainer Camilla Scott holds an entry with The Mulcair who ran second in a Hunter Chase in Leicester in March, and is another who could go well if defying top weight under young Finn Muirhead. Unioniste will run an honest race and should be there in the frame at the finish for the Biddick family team.

The Bridgetown & Totnes Race Co Ltd-sponsored Intermediate race holds a strong entry for the Heard family with Cottage Rose, who was a worthy winner at Flete Park last month. They could come up against outside raider and winner a Higham and Edgcote Ahead Of The Game for the Jason Warner team. Also Danny Archer for team Jefferson, another with recent previous winning form who is progressing fast into Intermediate company. Where’s Wilma is another highly rated and could improve on her recent second in an Open at Flete Park, and goes well for jockey Matt Hampton.

The Eggesford Champion Mixed Open race, which is sponsored by Simpkins Edwards, looks to be the feature of the day with over £600 in prize money. Entries include ex National Hunt and multiple Point-to-Point winners Chameron and Virak for trainer Sam Loxton. Virak also holds an entry at Holnicote this weekend, and connections may choose to run him there. Navanman  would be a popular family win at this track for trainer John Heard, and could follow up on his Hunter Chase spin around Cheltenham last month when he came home a creditable one-and-a half  length third. The well bred Galileo-sired gelding Los Alamos for the Luke Price team could go close if turning up here and follow up on his Open win at Trebudannon two weeks ago.

In the Waie Inn & Ford Fuels-sponsored Restricted race, Will Biddick could have a winning training and riding performance on Florrie Webb to follow up on their win at Cothelstone, if not choosing the Holnicote meeting on Saturday where they also hold an entry. Along with Party Tunes for team Summersby, who could follow up on their impressive 20-length win at Trebudannon two weeks ago under Darren Edwards.

Finally up is the Totnes & Bridgetown Race Co Ltd-sponsored Conditions race, which also holds plenty of talent with The Last But One (Tom Malone) looking to reproduce the form of his Trebudannon victory. He does hold entries in the earlier races here in which he could run well, along with his Holnicote option entry. Cloudy Music (Dean Summersby) will run a sound race under Charlotte Summersby, and The Mulcair for trainer Camilla Scott could opt for this race over his earlier entry.

Flete Park Races Course Updates:

Ground will be watered during the week to achieve Good, Good to Firm by race day as per the last meeting. All bends have been moved to fresh ground. Showers are forecast later in the week but we will NOT be relying on them. (updated 5 pm Sunday 25th April)

Flete Park Races Preview extract:

The second meeting to be held on the beautiful Flete Park Estate in South Devon, takes place this coming Saturday 1st May. The meeting will again be held behind closed doors due to current Covid restriction, but can be watched online via eventbrite live streaming. The main six race card commences at 2pm and has attracted 77 entries.

Flete Park Races Live Stream

Live streaming of the races with race commentary and all day presentation with interviews of participants led by former BBC racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght is on offer for the eight Point-To-Point races, with a start time of 1.00pm with the first of the races.

There is a fee of £10 plus a small Eventbrite admin fee to view the race meeting, which is the same cost as if you attended as a spectator, and the sport needs the income from live streaming to ensure its future.

Marchand Petit jointly sponsor the opening Maiden race with Totnes & Bridgetown Racing Co Ltd. This race could go the way of entry Not At All with previous place form for outside raider Jason Warner, and for jockey James King to continue his challenge for the men’s title. Chips For Free (Mary Sanderson) is another with decent previous place form and looks a decent ride for Rob Hawker.

The well bred Dr Time was impressive on winning his maiden race under Josh Newman in style here two weeks ago, and could take the Restricted race which is sponsored by Print Concerns supporting the NHS. Florrie Web also catches the eye being trained by Will Biddick, he won the members race at Cothelstone by eight lengths and could well re-produce that form here. O’Faolains Lad (Stuart Penny) could be another option for Will Biddick to ride, and could go close after his second at Cothelstone, where he could come on for that run.

Flete Park Races Preview extract

Totnes & Bridgetown Racing Co Ltd have added extra sponsorship for four of the races on the card which include the Skinners four- mile Ladies Open race and looks to be the feature of the day. Southfield Theatre is an entry who won over 170k under rules, and has been on the point-to-point scene for the Bradstock family for a number of years since retiring from National Hunt. This 13 year-old gelding is still part owned by his breeder Mrs Angela Yeoman, and is a credit to her stud farm. He also holds an entry in the Hunter Chase at Cheltenham on Friday this week, and connections may wish to target him there. Unioniste is another ex National Hunt horse who clocked up some more impressive form under rules gaining 250k in prize money, and now looks to be taking to pointing. He could improve on his second here two weeks ago for the Biddick team who may have young Ella Orttewell aboard, who has already tasted success at this track. Know The Score won here two weeks ago and could provide another winner for the inform Les Jefford team, this time with Jo Supple aboard.

Next up is the Brewin Dolphin-sponsored Conditions race in which local entry It’s A Steal would be a popular winner for the Lee Glanville team and follow up on their third here at the previous meeting, although they could be up against Journey Juice (Ed Walker) who got the better of them that day and could be the main threat, For Rita (Fran Nimmo) and Our Henrietta (Alice Procter) have both clocked up some decent form and any market support should be noted. If Chill Factor (Will Biddick)  runs here he is likely to put up a brave performance and deny a high weight penalty.

Charlotte Summersby is booked to have the option of three rides in this, with Cloudy Music for her family team Summersby, and could follow up on their third here at the previous meeting. Another from the team as a possible ride is Chosen Lucky if bouncing back from his run last weekend at Trebudannon, and Eric The Third a winner under Charlotte last weekend at Trebudannon. Syracuse’s Dream got his head in front when winning here at the last meeting at this track, with a good training performance by his patient owner/trainer Deborah Treener, and he could be close at the finish again under young Barnaby Treneer.

Finally up is the two-mile four furlong Maiden race sponsored by The White House Farm and Totnes & Bridgetown Race Co, in which entries Lassue (Will Biddick) finished four-lengths second at Cothelstone, and Aracara ( Luke Price) ran third here at the last meeting, both will be likely favourites if turning up here again.

Four Burrow Course Updates:

Four Burrow Preview extract:

We head to the furthest point west this coming Saturday, when it is the turn of the Four Burrow to host their meeting at  the Trebudannon track.

This event will take place behind closed doors with the option of live streaming for viewing the action. Eight races are now on offer with a start of 1pm. With over 100 entries received, the later Open Maiden race has been divided. This relatively level track has a slightly uphill finish and is popular for maiden horses, many of which we will see as stars for  the future.

Four Burrow Live Stream

Live streaming of the races with race commentary and all day presentation with interviews of participants led by former BBC racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght is on offer for the eight Point-To-Point races, with a start time of 1.00pm with the first of the races.

There is a fee of £10 plus a small Eventbrite admin fee to view the race meeting, which is the same cost as if you attended as a spectator, and the sport needs the income from live streaming to ensure its future.

Four Burrow Telephone Betting

Some bookmakers will be offering a betting service by phoning them and opening up an account.

For those spectators wanting to place a bet, the contact numbers to register are 07711 298746 for Richard Pittard and 07810 775119 for Dave Phillips. The deadline to register for bets at this event is one hour before racing commences.

Full details will be on the Devon & Cornwall Point-to-Point website at Point-to-Point Telephone Betting

Four Burrow Green zone entry tickets

Participants (Green Zone) only will need to apply for tickets and complete a health declaration to be allowed to enter the course.

The tickets and the latest information required for accessing the course on the day can be obtained from https://www.pointtopoint.co.uk

The day starts with the Mares and Fillies Open Maiden race run over 2 miles and four furlongs, which has been sponsored by both the Jockey Club and Mitchell & Webber. Entries include debutant Benny’s Miracle for trainer Teresa Clark, who will have Will Biddick aboard. Ex Irish import Honest Opinion, for the Dean Summersby team, had some good place form in Ireland and this mare should have a promising future.

Purple ‘N Gold stands out for the in form Les Jefford team in the Totnes & Bridgetown-sponsored Condition race, he looked to need the outing at Cherrybrook and could well come on for the run and rekindle his previous form of five straight wins last season. Soul Kaliber for team Summersby is another previous course winner here, looks to act any going and could improve on his third at Cherrybrook and score again for owners The Little Acres Racing Club, who have had some great winning days with the yard.

In the following Conditions race we could see outside raider Sparkleandshine turn up to snatch a win for the Alan Hill team. He looks dangerous having clocked up a 25L  win at Bishops Court in October under Tommie O’Brien, and ran a creditable second at Charing in March. Crown Of Thorns won under Will Biddick at the recent Cherrybrook meeting and  could score again for the Sarah Pidsley team, although he also holds an entry in the Totnes & Bridgetown-sponsored Men’s open race which follows.

In the R J Trevarthen-sponsored Ladies Open race, Master Baker could add to his 15 race wins to date which include Hunter Chase wins at Taunton and Newbury under regular jockey Jo Supple. If connections choose this race over the previous for Chosen Lucky, he could be a winner for Charlotte Summersby. Ramble On is another notable entry catching the eye if making the trip down from the Luke Price yard and follow up on his second at Flete Park last weekend.

In the second division Hard Face Space for the inform Francesca Nimmo team, who scored an impressive  five wins last weekend and must be feared if travelling to this track, Cothelstone runner-up Loodeen for the Brooke-Gardener-Wallen team, and debutant Meetmelater  for young trainer Christopher Barber, all look interesting prospects.

The Wainhomes-sponsored  Restricted race could go the way of Dancing Dave who is the highest rated, he won his maiden at this track and ran well at Didmarton last season when finishing third for the Ed Walker team. Mustmeetforapint (Dean Summersby) ran at Cothelstone last weekend finishing third and could follow up here for Darren Edwards. Any market support for Raging Fire (Mike Felton) will be worth noting, with this ex-Irish import showing some promising place form in Ireland before winning his maiden at Chipley Park in 2018.

The 4 mile Mixed Open race is another to be kindly sponsored by Totnes & Bridgetown Racing Company, with those likely to be highly fancied in the betting ring are the prolific winning Navanman (John Heard), along with Honest Deed (Dean Summersby), both of which have reversed form with each other and could provide another thrilling finish. Chill Factor is a notable entry who could be in the mix here for Cheltenham Foxhunter winning trainer Will Biddick, with the combination of young Ella Orttewell booked to ride, who won her first race at this track, has been improving fast under the watchful eye of the Biddick team. Cocoa Live ran last weekend at Cothelstone and could find this race comes too soon, although going would suit and has the booking of another promising young jockey from the Biddick team in Charlie Sprake. Ramble On is another outside raider who has good solid form , going wouldn’t be a problem and could add to his win here in 2018.

In the Maiden race for four and five year olds, sponsored by Francis Clark, Gemini’s Fire, who finished a half length second at Charing, could continue the winning form of young trainer Christopher Barber. Charles Ritz (Ed Walker) also catches the eye if connections choose this race over the later maiden, and having run second to Tiptop Mountain at Wadebridge in December.

Helen Humphry & Lotus Therapies sponsor the opening Novice & Veteran riders race which has been pre-divided. In the first division, the Tom Malone – trained Art Mauresque stands out having won at the opening meeting at Bishops Court in October. This French bred gelding had decent form when under rules with Paul Nicholls, having won over £180,00 in prize money, before loosing his way. Bloodstock Agent Tom Malone has sweetened the horse up with a change of scenery and he sets the standard here. However he also holds an entry in both the Men’s Open and Ladies Open races, which may be a preferred option for Art Mauresque, this could leave the door open for the Les Jefford-trained Raddon Top who should go well in the first division of the opener and follow upon his second at the East Devon meeting in October, when coming home two lengths second under Conor Houlihan, who holds the ride again here. Sounds of Italy looks an interesting outside raider for owner/trainer/jockey Finbar Milrane, with his two lengths second at Ampton when last seen, but he also holds an entry at the Chaddesley Corbett fixture, so may head there if conditions suit. Kimble winner Sir Mangan could prove a danger coming out of the red hot Alan Hill’s team.

In the second division Chosen Lucky could get another win for the Dean Summersby team, with daughter Charlotte on board. Rolling Dylan is an entry for trainer Laura Parker, who has a good strike rate at this track, and the gelding could find his old National Hunt form when in training with Philip Hobbs, who still owns him, and has the booking of promising young jockey Tom Dixon aboard.

The open maiden race has 40 entries and is likely to be divided on the day. Those that catch the eye are A Tipple Or Two who was unlucky when unseating at Bishops Court, and could go well on his previous runner-up form. Honest Opinion who could be another shrewd buy on previous place form, from Ireland for team Summersby.  Great Colewood for the Ed Walker team could follow up on his second at Bishops Court. Old Town Garde for the Chloe Roddick team with the booking of jockey Angus Cheleda is interesting. Moonaro could improve on his place form for trainer Susan Darke,  and The Kitchenmecanic had previous place form in Ireland and could go well for trainer Teresa Clark. The maiden races have been kindly sponsored by Andrew & Susan Pellowe, David Hardie Plumbing & Heating and Hayley Mason.

The Treavarthen-sponsored Ladies Open race looks to be a thriller in store, with previous course winner The Last But One entered for the Tom Malone team, which could see jockey Jo Supple back in the winners enclosure. They may be challenged by entry Chosen Lucky under Charlotte Summersby if not competing in the earlier Novice race, or the Ed Walker entry Different Gravy. The latter having had decent form under rules when with Nicky Henderson when he clocked up five wins under rules. Once joining the Ed Walker team, Different Gravy’s latest win came at Larkhill in 2018 under jockey Will Biddick, they could be right there at the finish if going well fresh after a long layoff.

The prolific winning gelding Navanman for the John Heard team could take on Art Mauresque in the Moore’s of St Wenn-sponsored Men’s Open which looks another exciting race. Navanman has already scored a hat-trick at this course and may have the booking of either top jockey’s Will Biddick, if Art Mauresque is chosen to run in an earlier race, or Darren Edwards who has won aboard Navanman. Dr Des catches the eye for Welsh raider Gary Barber after his dual hurdle win and third at Exeter in February this year. Also Different Gravy, mentioned before, if not running in the Ladies race.

In the Exeter Racecourse-sponsored Intermediate race, Waterloo Warrier is an outside raider to note if travelling down from the Cotswolds for the Angela Slater team, having good previous National Hunt form and ran a half length third at Maisemore in October. Getting Closer for trainer Alan Hill won his Restricted at Horseheath and followed up with a two length second to Fumet O’Oudaries in his Intermediate also at Horseheath. Voie Dans Voie is another to hold some promising form with a previous maiden win at this track and is now trained and ridden by Will Biddick.

Finally up is the Print Concerns NHS Restricted race in which Mustmeetforapint is a previous winner at this track and acts on any going. Starsky could follow up on his win at Bishops Court, and Schiap Hill after his second at Bishops Court. Also Hotel Du Nord could give Will Biddick another training performance and see a promising young jockey Charlie Sprake take a step up the ladder in his career.
