The going at Buckfastleigh remains SOFT

Pony Racing 12 noon, 1st PtP Race 1.00pm.

Today’s very high winds, with occasional blustery showers, sure challenged our volunteers preparing for Sunday’s Buckfastleigh meeting. But it takes a lot to deter real “pointing” folk and although heavy rain was expected later in the day, with the prospect of a much improved forecast for Sunday they battled on with good humour, vowing to be up early Sunday to finish off the “cosmetics”, bins, banners and bogs, not forgetting the flags for the finish line!

As forecast, the wind and rain has already abated this evening (9pm), so rest assured we intend to be all ready to welcome you to our Course tomorrow, be it to race a pony or pointer, or just to enjoy the spectacle and a flutter, but tip for the day, do wear stout footwear – it is March after all!

I will post an up to date Buckfastleigh Going Report as soon as one is available to me tomorrow and I look forward to seeing you all there.

Local BHA Course Inspector, Claire Wonnacott , walked the course with our Clerk of the Course, John Bond this afternoon and declared the Going at Buckfastleigh to be soft. Rain and strong winds are forecast for Saturday, quietening on Sunday to a moderate breeze.

Please note: On race day arrival, Horse boxes to be parked up in the lorry park but horses must remain boxed until the Horse’s Passport and Health Declaration documents have been presented to the Declarations Desk for inspection before authorisation to unload can be given.

Thursday, 14 March

At 6pm yesterday, The Clerk of the Course reported the Going at Buckfastleigh was Soft. Now we are into March the ground is drying much quicker than in February and the Course walked very well, with a good covering of grass and the fences all moved to fresh ground, as have been the bends. Today, heavy morning rain early on has been replaced by more showery weather and strong winds, with similar forecast for Friday. A further report on the Going and outlook for race day will follow tomorrow afternoon.

Tuesday, 12th March

Buckfastleigh – This afternoon the Clerk of the Course reported the Going to be Soft but it has been a sunny, windy day and preparations for racing are progressing well.

Friday 8th March

The Buckfastleigh Clerk of the Course reported this morning, Friday 8th March, that the Preliminary Going at Buckfastleigh is Good to Soft, Soft in Places. More posts to follow regularly from mid week on. DVSPH PtP Secretary.

Racegoers are in for a treat next weekend where the Dart Vale & Haldon Harriers host their meeting at Buckfastleigh on Sunday 17th March. Having enjoyed Cheltenham festival race week, those attending this meeting will be treated to some competitive racing here, where seven races are on offer, which have attracted over 80 entries. Pony racing, which is sponsored by Salcombe Dairy Ice Cream precedes the main race card with two pony races commencing at 12 noon.

The course at Buckfastleigh offers fantastic viewing, it is easily located off the A38. There will be plenty of trade stands, hot food tent, bar, bookies and a great atmosphere for all the family to enjoy. Entrance to the course is £10 per person with children 16 and under free. Dogs on leads welcome. Post code TQ11 OLT.

Great Trethew going update as of today, good to soft. With sunshine and a drying wind I cannot see it being anything but good by Sunday.

It is the turn of the East Cornwall to host the next fixture to be held in the area, which will take this coming Sunday February 24th, at the popular course located at Menheniot, Great Trethew. Pony racing heads up the action with two pony races commencing at 11am. The main event follows at midday, with six races on offer attracting over 100 entries.

The course is a great location for a family day out to enjoy the spring weather, and an opportunity to dust off the picnic baskets, whilst watching some good race action. The course offers bar, hot and cold refreshments and food, bookies and a number of trade stands. Entrance to the course is £10 per person with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome. The first of three point-to-points scheduled to take place at the stunning location of Bratton Down is this coming Sunday May 20th. Pony racing which is sponsored by Gerald and Victor Dartnall, heads up the action at 12.45 with the main seven race card following at 2pm. 112 entries have been received. With championships hotting up in this the last month of the season, the racing will be even more competitive.

This promises to be a lovely family day out set in a great location with a view of Exmoor across the valley. Entrance to the course is £10 per person to max of £30 a car load, with children under 16 free. Dogs welcome but must be on leads at all times. On course facilities include hot and cold refreshments, bar, bookies and a number of trade stands. A double treat is in store this Bank Holiday weekend for Point-to-Point racing enthusiasts in the Devon & Cornwall Area when The Modbury Harriers stage their meeting at Flete Park this coming Saturday 5th May, followed by the Stevenstone meeting at Vauterhill on Monday May 7th.

First up is the Flete Park event with Pony Racing heading up the action at 1pm followed by their seven race card starting at 2pm. 80 entries have been received.

This is a popular track for families to enjoy a picnic day at the races in this stunning parkland setting. The course has a country show feel about it with many trade stands, along with bar, bookies and hot and cold refreshments. Entrance to the course is £10 per person to a maximum of £30 per car. Last fence ready for final trim at Flete Park. As of Sunday 1.30pm soft, heavy in places following overnight rain.

Drying wind now and should be perfect by Saturday, given warm weather forecast as its old parkland turf. Hard work by the Dartmoor and Modbury helpers has ensured we are almost ready to go now.

Fantastic drying day at Flete Park, third in a row. Looking forward to races on Saturday, April 21.

The beautiful parkland setting of Flete Park, near Ermington is the setting for this weekend’s meeting in the Devon & Cornwall area on Saturday 21st April. Seven races will be on offer with pony racing, which has been kindly sponsored by landowner Antony Mildmay-White, heading up the action at 1pm, followed by the main race card at 2pm. A total of 118 entries have been received.

After racing follows a charity Clydesdale race run in aid of Devon Air Ambulance which features local Farriers taking on a team of Veterinary Surgeons from South Moor Vets. It is always a joy to watch these huge horse specimens thundering down the home straight with the novice jockey’s on board raising funds for a worthy cause.

On course facilities include beer tent, plenty of hot food and refreshment stands, bookies and 17 trade stands varying from Fine Arts by Insitju, Farmers Friend for country wear to Sam Bradley & Wolfrock Boat stands, giving the course a real country show atmosphere. Entrance to the course is £10 per person to a max of £30 per car. Pedestrians £10 and Children under 16 free. Dogs only on leads welcome. The course is located at Flete Park, Ermington PL21 9NX.

There has been an inspection of the course today by local BHA Inspector, Claire Wonnacott,  Chief Steward, Terry Hamlin & Clerk of the Course John Bond, who have confirmed they are happy for racing to go ahead and that the Going is Heavy.  Note: The way-out from lorry park has been re-organised for ease of exit.  Buckfastleigh is on!

The Clerk of the Course reports from Buckfastleigh that the Going there is Soft, Heavy in Places. The Course is looking good and our work-parties are ready for racing to go ahead this Saturday. A further update will follow tomorrow.

The PtP Secretary for Buckfastleigh reports that arrangements for their re-scheduled meeting on Easter Saturday, 31 March, are now well in hand and it’s all systems go for racing to go ahead there next weekend.  Regular Going reports will be posted during the coming week

The Dart Vale postponed fixture will be run on next Saturday 31st March (Easter Saturday) with entries standing.

The Dart Vale and Haldon Harriers fixture on this Sunday 18th March is postponed due to access to the lorry park and for services on the course. They are seeking to run on an alternative date.

Following persistent rain on Wednesday which continued overnight, the Clerk of the Course reports the Going today as Heavy, Soft in Places . It has been dry all day today with a drying breeze and preparations continue apace in readiness to race on Sunday.

Tuesday, 13 March, posted 5.25pm

After weekend rain, work parties deferred working on the course yesterday until today.  The Clerk of the Course, John Bond, reports this afternoon that it has been dry and sunny all day and the Going is now Soft, Heavy in Places and conditions drier than he had expected.   They have progressed well with the work in hand,  all  fences and bends have been moved successfully and racing at this meeting will be on all fresh ground with a good covering of grass to the track.   Further bulletins will now follow throughout the week.

Preliminary Going

Preliminary Going is Soft for the DV&HH PtP on Sunday, 18 March 2018.

Following the February meeting, the course was reinstated, all the fences moved and racing will be on all fresh ground with a good covering of grass. Work parties will be on the Course on Monday and a report from the Clerk of the Course will be posted later that day.

Going Update

Saturday 17 February 2018 – at 6.30pm

The Clerk of the Course reported the Going remains unchanged, Soft, Heavy in Places.  There was no overnight rain, it’s been another dry, sunny day and we are all set to race tomorrow.  Before racing begins tomorrow, as is usual the Going will be determined by the Chief Steward.

Yesterday Clare Wonnacott, BHA local Inspector, visited the course, found it to be in good order with the Going ” Soft, Heavy in Places”. Today, the Clerk of the Course reports the Going remains unchanged but with a current spell of fine weather set to continue to race day, the course will be drying out further all the time. Preparations are all well in hand to be ready to race on Sunday.

Tuesday 13 February 2018

The Clerk of the Course reports that following overnight rain the Going at Buckfastleigh today is “Soft, Heavy in Places”.

Heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday, and thereafter dry and sunny weather up to and including race day.

Local Course Inspector, Clare Wonnacott, is due to visit and inspect the Course on Thursday when a further Going Report will be posted.

A fantastic family day of Point-to-Pointing is on offer next weekend with the first of two meetings to take place at the popular track based at Buckfastleigh, South Devon on Sunday February 18. After heavy showers today, Wednesday, the ground for Sunday 28th is now soft with good to soft patches, however forecast is for little or no rain for the next 3 days so no problems envisaged Keith

Saturday 20th January 2018

All systems go for Sunday 28th 1st race 12 noon. Looking great at the moment all fences out and cut off, 4-5″ grass and the ground today was good to soft, soft in places. Trusting another good entry on its way as it does seem to be very popular. See you all then. Keith

With the Point-to-Point season back in full swing, the stunning location of Chipley Park is where the Tiverton Foxhounds will host their meeting, this coming Sunday January 28th.  Set in over 90 acres of parkland this has been a popular venue since the year 2000. Seven races are on offer with a start time of 12 noon. 124 entries have been received

There are many trade stands which include a Venison and Buffalo Burger stand, Taunton Cider and Zara’s Country Accessories which could be ideal for ladies looking for Cheltenham Festival wear. Bookies, bar and hot food are available. Entrance to the course is £10 per person up to £30 per car, with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads are welcome. The organisers would like to give a mention to many of the sponsors who have helped in funding the day, which include Matford Landrover, A.J.D.Nash, Pennymore Timber, John Dorse Hay & Straw, Simon & Annabel Brooks-Ward vet team, The Hartnoll Hotel Tiverton and The Keepers Cottage Kentisbere.

The course is located of the B3167 3 miles from Wellington and 1mile from Milverton. Postcode TA21 0QY.

Thursday 4th January 2018

Nicholas Phillips reports the course inspector has seen the course and has called the going “Soft, Heavy patches”. There’s a little rain forecast Thursday night, but after that the forecast seems to be much drier.

Point-to-Pointing gets back on track in the area next weekend when The North Cornwall host their meeting at the popular venue of The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge on Sunday 7th January. There can be few better ways to blow away the Christmas and New Year festivities, with a fabulous day at the races. There will be eight races on offer, with a start time of 11.30am. A total of 72 entries have been received.

The course offers great viewing and a huge covered barn containing Hot refreshments, bar, bookies and trade stands, and large screen Location is off A39 West of Wadebridge PL27 7JE. ‪Updated going report for the Bishops Court Racing Club Point-To-Point tomorrow. No change still Good to Soft, Soft in Places. Sunshine last 2 days, today overcast but no rain.

Wednesday 15th November 2017

Bishops Court Wednesday going update. Course inspection today and it is still GOOD TO SOFT , SOFT IN PLACES. No reported problems, so see you all on Sunday.

Bishops Court going as of Sunday afternoon: Good to Soft, Soft in places. No problems with course , forecast is for a drying week.

THE wait is over for Point-to-Point enthusiast as the first meeting of the new season takes place at Bishops Court, Ottery St Mary this coming Sunday 19th November. Owners of the course, Andrew & Delia Carter, came to the rescue in providing their land as an alternative venue to the Black Forest Lodge track, which was sold late this summer. The meeting is hosted by The Bishops Court Racing Club.

This track offers a stunning location, providing a fabulous day out for all the family to enjoy the start of the new season. On course facilities include bar offering cask ale provided by Exe Valley Brewery, homemade food including burgers and sausages from Silverton Butchers, bookies, and many trade stands. Entrance to the course is £10 per person up to a maximum of £30 per car. Pedestrians £10, Children under 16 free.

Location is at Bishops Court, Ottery St Mary (EX11 1RJ).
