GRANVILLE’S BETTING GOSSIP – FOUR BURROW POINT-TO-POINT AT TREBUDANNON, EASTER MONDAY 6th APRIL 2015

Website_FB1_Money_Talks_Banner

It was a similar story at Trebudannon on Easter Monday with car parks packed and race cards quickly sold out. The slopes on the hill could have doubled for Newquay beach, with holidaymakers mingling with point-to-point enthusiasts and hardly an inch of space for one more blanket to sit the family (and the dog) on.

Berties’s Way was made favourite for the first maiden (3’s to 2’s) on the strength of promising early season form but could only finish fifth. Five-year-old Cove Lodge (6’s to 9-2) looked the part for his debut in the same race. He showed some promise and will be better for the experience. The race went to 20-1 outsider Torgamah Lad who had shown nothing for Venetia Williams or Nigel Hawke under rules, but had his ten rivals in trouble a long way out. Miss Weld (5-2 to 3’s) closed steadily, but she really needs a longer trip and would be of interest at somewhere like Flete Park.

Winter Garden was a worthy winner of the other division of the two and a half miles Maiden. On a red letter day (three winners) for trainer Reuben Chapman, the ex-Irish six-year-old justified 9-4 favouritism in the hands of Sean Houlihan.

Mic’s Delight (evens-4-5) tended to jump right and was taken quite wide by his novice rider in home straight the Confined. Nevertheless he is proving a good ride for her and was coming back at the winner Academy General (6-1) on the run-in. Jo Buck had pushed Academy General clear approaching the last before holding on to win by a neck. “He was struck into last time (Black Forest Lodge) and ripped a shoe off,” reported trainer Pat Shaw.

Kirkleigh’s sound jumping and determination landed him the Cornish National (4-5 touched evens) in a blanket finish with Ace High (4’s to 5-2) and Batu Ferringhi (7-2 to 9-2).
