Preview Tiverton Point-To-Point – Chipley Park Sunday 25 Jan 2015

Website_TivPreview_Banner

A total prize fund of £550 is on offer in the Mixed Open race at this weekends Point-to-Point, to be held at the majestic course of Chipley Park, between Wellington & Milverton. The winner last year was the Keith Cumings trained Certain Flight under reigning National Champion male jockey Will Biddick. The stylish jockey is already stamping his authority on the leader board this season, having notched up a treble at Larkhill last Saturday, and is hopeful of the ride again on Certain Flight to repeat their success. Blazing Whale from the Ed Walker team is also entered, and won his Intermediate race here last season under Robbie Henderson. Triptico ran well in the Mens Open at Chaddesley Corbett last month, and could be in the mix for trainer Angela Rucker. This race is sponsored by Matford Landrover & John Pearce Memorial.

The action kicks off at 12 noon, with eight races on offer and a total of 120 entries. First up is the Stags of Tiverton-sponsored Members race, in which the Kayley Woollacott-trained Robin Will catches the eye. Having impressively won his Maiden race at this course two seasons ago, he followed that up with a win at Black Forest Lodge, and two Hunter Chase wins, his connections are hoping that he can reproduce that form again. Also entered is the Mary Sanderson-trained Blinding Lights, another course winner, and he has had the benefit of an early season run, when fourth at Black Forest Lodge.

In the Agronomy sponsored Restricted race, Blazing Memory for owner Sue Trump, is now in training with Robert Chanin, having previously shown some good form when with Les Jefford could be a likely favourite here. Mangans Turn from the in form Jack Barber team, ran well here last year when second in his maiden race. Cecile De Volanges was well fancied last season clocking up a win at Lower Machen and a second at Larkhill.

King’s Scout is a suggestion in the Exeter Racecourse sponsored Intermediate race, the gelding having ended his season with a six length win at Bratton Down for the Marie McGuiness team. Jepeck looks to be on a roll for the Kayley Woollacott camp, having already clocked up two wins this season under Jamie Thomas, having followed up their maiden win at Black Forest Lodge with a battle at Larkhill ending in a dead heat with ICTHEC. Another suggestion could be Soul Native, who came close to winning the Intermediate at Vauterhill when one and a half lengths behind Whenharrymetsally.

In the Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members race for Novice Riders, Ladyvie has been running well for young novice jockey Hannah Welch, clocking up two seconds, but this looks to be a stiffer task. The ten year old Ski Sunday is among the entries and had shown some good form under rules when in training with Tim Vaughan. Ned The Post is another to note having run well at Wadebridge until being hampered and unseating his rider on the bend. Be Definate could also be in the mix after his second at Chaddesley Corbett.

The eleven-year-old prolific winning mare Lucette Annie from the Simon Partridge team is entered in the Thoroughbred Breeders Association Club Mares race, and jockey Darren Edwards will be looking forward to defending their win of this race last year. The main opposition looks to be the Keith Cumings-trained Whenharrymetsally, connections will be looking to follow up on her win at Black Forest Lodge, after which she was unlucky to slip up on the bend when competing at the Wadebridge meeting.

Two divisions of the Open Maiden conclude the days event, in the first division General Girling has been knocking at the door of maiden races with three consecutive seconds and deserves a win soon, and the Kayf Tara sired gelding Just Imagine It, could put up a good performance for the Jack Barber team. This race is sponsored by the Mount Pleasant Inn.

The second division sponsored by Robert Barwell Memorial, could see Porlock Bay follow up on his second at Larkhill under jockey Darren Edwards, and Follow The Paint from the John Heard team, is another looking to improve on his second at Wadebridge under jockey Bryony Frost.

Offering a great location for picnics, this course also attracts many trade stands, together with hot food, refreshments and bar, giving a great party atmosphere. Bookies will be out in force to offer punters the chance to try their luck and win some money on their favoured selections.

Entrance to the course is £25 per car load or £10 car and driver. Pedestrians £7 each.

Course is located off B3187, Wellington 3m, Milverton 1m – TA21 0QU
