The Western Hunt hosts the third meeting to be held at The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge this coming Sunday 10th February. Six races are on offer with a start time of 12 noon.

The Tinners Arms-sponsored Ladies race has multiple course winner Chosen Lucky entered who could be an option for Jo Supply to ride. Jo currently heads the leader board for the Byerley Bear trophy which is awarded to the lady jockey gaining most points over the three meetings in ladies races here, which would be a great achievement for Jo who sustained a nasty pelvic injury at the end of last season. The Last But One for Bloodstock Agent and trainer Tom Malone could be another option for Jo Supple to ride and follow up on their win here at the January meeting, but connections may choose the re-arranged South Dorset meeting at Milborne St Andrew on Saturday as a preferred option.

Honest Deed and Hello George are among the entries who could battle out the finish in the Men’s Open race, which is sponsored by Mr & Mrs Peter George. Honest Deed for the Dean Summersby team won the Men’s Open here at the January meeting under Darren Edwards, and should go close again if following up on that form. Hello George has previous form when with the Phillip Hobbs yard, scoring a hurdle race at Newbury in 2017. He is now owned, trained and will be ridden by Nathan Verge who could get a sweet ride out of the now ten-year-old gelding and be the ones to challenge if staying up the gruelling steep home finish.

Hello George also holds an entry in the opening Stimson & Tieken-sponsored Conditions race for veteran and novice riders. This looks like a thriller in store with Chosen Lucky, Mic’s Delight and Rockinrolldixie among the entries. Chosen Lucky won this race at the January meeting under young jockey Liam Harrison. Mic’s Delight had previously held Chosen Lucky and has won at this track twice, the now 15-year-old gelding could put up another bold front running performance under jockey Millie Wonnacott. Rockinrolldixie was the one to deny Mic’s Delight his treble at this course in December, when staying on better up the hill to snatch a four length win under jockey Nathan Vergne.

Bridge Of Spies and Wind Tor stand out as likely favourites in the Intermediate race which is sponsored by a group of farriers. Bridge of Spies (George Beilby) won his restricted race here in January under jockey Nick Lawton, he had previously run second at the December meeting and looks to prefer a left handed track. He should go well if recovering from his recent fourth at Chipley Park two weeks ago. Wind Tor (Ed Walker) looked to be staying on at Chipley Park finishing sixth under Josh Newman in his first outing this season, and could challenge if improving for that run.

Mujadel (Teresa Clark) won his maiden here in January and looks progressive to take the Hutchinson-sponsored Restricted race, his main challenger could come from entry Acadian for trainer Heidi Lewis, who also won his maiden at this course, and was only denied by a head when awarrded second behind Bridge Of Spies in his Restricted race at the January meeting here when ridden by Lee Drowne.

The Open Maiden race holds 19 entries and those catching the eye are Cloudy Music (Dean Summersby) having finished second here in January, Deise Gold runner up here at both previous meetings and should score soon for the Jill Dennis team. Rare Oul Times (Ed Walker) could improve on his third here at the January meeting.

With the huge covered barn containing on course facilities such as hot and cold refreshments and food, bar, bookies and a number of trade stands. The course has excellent track side viewing to get close to the action. Entrance is £10 per person, children under 16 are free. Dogs on leads welcome. Location is The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge. Postcode PL27 7JE.

Preview: North Cornwall Point-to-Point, Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge – Sunday 13th January 2019

Written by : Donna Harris

The second scheduled Point-to-Point meeting to be held at the Royal Cornwall Show Ground, Wadebridge, takes place this coming Sunday 13th January. Eight races are now on offer, with the Open Maiden race divided. A total of 87 entries have been received. The first race is off at 11.30am

Kivells sponsor the Men’s Open race, in which Navanman’s connections will be hoping for an early season hat-trick of wins. The gelding came home a two-length winner here at the last meeting, having won impressively at Buckfastleigh in November for trainer John Heard and in-form jockey Bryan Carver. This time he could face two new challengers, ex NH recruits The Last But One from the Tom Malone yard, and Johnathan Farrelly’s Portrait King who has won over a hundred thousand in prize money under rules. Portrait King will need to have recovered from his second place at Larkhill last weekend, and may find this race comes too soon.

The Last But One also holds an entry in the Skinners-sponsored Ladies Open race, and could be the likely favourite. Having won a hurdle race at Worcester last July, the gelding has three Chase wins to his credit when in training with Paul Nicholls. Chosen Lucky for the Dean Summersby team could also figure high in the betting, having won eight of his eleven starts to date, which include two wins at the course.

Robin de Souza, another out of the team Summersby yard, is the highest rated in the opening Moores of St Wenn-sponsored Members race. He has won five times at this track under jockey Darren Edwards, and looks to go well fresh. Trainer Joe Tickle has entered My King, who could put up a brave bid, having won his Maiden race here last season.

The Claire Wonnacott team will be hoping that Heaney will go close in the Ray Davies Foods-sponsored race for Novice Riders, having won here last February. Under jockey Millie Wonnacott, Heaney was denied a win by a short head at Buckfastleigh in November. The winner that day, Blackwater Bramble, then scored at the December Larkhill meeting, coming home by 20 lengths ahead of the field. Ex NH entry Earthmoves could be interesting for the Laura Thomas team, having won six races under rules, the ten-year-old gelding could re-kindle some form in Pointing. Entry Rockinrolldixie could well be in the mix, having won at this meeting in December for trainer Carly Mather.

Home Furnishings of Wadebridge sponsor the Restricted race in which Dragon de la Tour could well follow up on his maiden win at this track in December for the Big Brook team. Outside raider Rien du Tout could be a danger, and was impressive when winning his maiden race at Cothelstone for the Charlotte Budd team, coming home the six length winner on good to firm going.

Whilst in the Exeter Racecourse-sponsored Intermediate race Wind Tor could be a punters favourite, with the gelding scoring three wins for the Ed Walker team last season. Awesome Tunes is another entry for the Ed Walker team, he would be a popular winner for Cornish owner Ross Oliver, and could add to his wins at Trebudannon and Ottery. Although Mister Robbo could be the one to snatch this for outside Welsh trainer Thomas Faulkner and in form jockey Byron Moorcroft, with a season win at Howick followed up by a three-quarter length second at the December Atherstone meeting.

Finally up is the MRMU Property-sponsored Open Maiden race which has been pre divided with thirteen entered in each. In the first division those catching the eye are Deise Gold, Mujadel and Mountain Las looking to improve on their place form here at the last meeting. With Ex Irish pointer Cloudy Music, Captain Cuckoo, and Inner Loop among connections looking for progression in the second division.

The course at Wadebridge offers a huge covered barn containing hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies, a huge tv screen, and a number of country trade stands. The parking is easily accessed along tarmac avenues, and there is good track-side viewing.

Entrance to the course is £10 per person, max £30 per car, with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome. Location is off the A39 west of Wadebridge. PL27 7JE.
