The going at Buckfastleigh remains SOFT
Saturday, 16 March at 21:44
Pony Racing 12 noon, 1st PtP Race 1.00pm.
Today’s very high winds, with occasional blustery showers, sure challenged our volunteers preparing for Sunday’s Buckfastleigh meeting. But it takes a lot to deter real “pointing” folk and although heavy rain was expected later in the day, with the prospect of a much improved forecast for Sunday they battled on with good humour, vowing to be up early Sunday to finish off the “cosmetics”, bins, banners and bogs, not forgetting the flags for the finish line!
As forecast, the wind and rain has already abated this evening (9pm), so rest assured we intend to be all ready to welcome you to our Course tomorrow, be it to race a pony or pointer, or just to enjoy the spectacle and a flutter, but tip for the day, do wear stout footwear – it is March after all!
I will post an up to date Buckfastleigh Going Report as soon as one is available to me tomorrow and I look forward to seeing you all there.

Local BHA Course Inspector, Claire Wonnacott , walked the course with our Clerk of the Course, John Bond this afternoon and declared the Going at Buckfastleigh to be soft. Rain and strong winds are forecast for Saturday, quietening on Sunday to a moderate breeze.
Please note: On race day arrival, Horse boxes to be parked up in the lorry park but horses must remain boxed until the Horse’s Passport and Health Declaration documents have been presented to the Declarations Desk for inspection before authorisation to unload can be given.

At 6pm yesterday, The Clerk of the Course reported the Going at Buckfastleigh was Soft. Now we are into March the ground is drying much quicker than in February and the Course walked very well, with a good covering of grass and the fences all moved to fresh ground, as have been the bends. Today, heavy morning rain early on has been replaced by more showery weather and strong winds, with similar forecast for Friday. A further report on the Going and outlook for race day will follow tomorrow afternoon.
Tuesday, 12th March
Buckfastleigh – This afternoon the Clerk of the Course reported the Going to be Soft but it has been a sunny, windy day and preparations for racing are progressing well.
Friday 8th March
The Buckfastleigh Clerk of the Course reported this morning, Friday 8th March, that the Preliminary Going at Buckfastleigh is Good to Soft, Soft in Places. More posts to follow regularly from mid week on. DVSPH PtP Secretary.
